I had to shred three very large bags full of stuff this week and it reminded me of another story.
Many many many years ago I worked at an alarm company. One night while working second shift I was shredding a large box of documents while talking with a co-worker. Shirley was an older woman with the baudiest loudest sense of humour. Oh my goodness didn’t we laugh. It was so long ago that I was young and cute at the time and work adorable little outfits. I was wearing a very tailored navy blue skirt, and this cute little white shirt with lace around the color.
Suddenly I feel a pressure on the back of my neck pushing my head towards the shredder, faster and faster and I coudln’t make it stop.
Shirley of course is staring at me like I’m an idiot as my face and hair are getting closer to the blades. It finally dawns on my that my beautiful lace shirt has very long lace ties around the neck which are now firmly entrenched in the shredder. Being the calm and quick thinkng person that I am I immediately started laughing and could not stop. I didn’t think to hit the stop button until my face was resting on top of it. So, then I reversed and instead of beautiful lace, I had funky fringe ties around my neck.
Everytime I have to shred more than a page or two I remember this and start laughing. And of course that means I’m sitting at work laughing all by myself with a shredder.
No one really comes near me when that happens.
