More opinions than you really need.

Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

I write stories in my head all the time.  I see a leaf of odd colors and I make up a story about the leaf.  I see a house that doesn’t quite fit the neighborhood and I make up a story about the occupants. If I were a writer, this is the book I would write.  I would have this type of storyline, in this type of setting, with these characters saying most of these same things.

I believe this is her first nationally (internationally?) published book, and really what a promising start!  The story is a cross between Practical Magic and a Mary Stewart short novel.  One specifically springs to mind.  A couple of times the story went to a predictable point but I can forgive that.  This is a fast read, with characters you’ll know quickly.  Light and easy with nothing to offend.  I can’t wait to get my hands on her second book.

Twilight – the movie.

My sister and I went to see this today.  All of you who didn’t fall prey to the phenom go ahead and get your guffaws out of the way now.  I really enjoyed the books, and so I was scared to see the movie.  Even more so after I saw the Today show interview with the two stars who played Bella and Edward.  They were gawky and uninspiring to say the least.  Then to see the pipe toking actress a few days later just about did me in.  I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to get over the image of that and be able to suspend reality and enjoy the movie.  I’m happy to say I was wrong.  I enjoyed the movie!  It had a great feel.  Sort of like the book I just read, not to heavy, but enough story to keep you interested.  I think the casting was spot on.  I’ll be waiting patiently for the next one!

I don’t know if I would bother if you’re not a fan of the books, or a young girl.  I’m just not sure it will have the same impact.

I do so love a new book.
