  1. Bees don’t bother me at all. I’ve been stung twice, but both stings were the fault of other people wailing and flailing and smacking the bees into my tender flesh. No biggie – just a bit annoying.  My husband, however, hates bees.  And I don’t like honey. Otherwise I would consider beekeeping, maybe, as my cool Toledo-moved-to-Akron friends do.  They’re delicious homesteaders.  Delicious!

  2. @BoureeMusique – Coincidentally I just got home and my son pointed out a bee colony in our backyard.  Sadly (for them) they will get sprayed with a suitable poison.  One of the dogs keeps getting stung, and we cannot have that.

I would be spraying them too with a suitable poison, as I am highly allergic to them.

  4. RAWR I HATE BEES!!! I’D BE RUNNING FOR MY LIFE!!!!!

  5. wow, so many of them …. nice to look at but not having them in the backyard 😦

  6. I recently educated my neighbors that honey bees are not bad and will not sting you unless you go over to their hive and mess with them a whole lot and they feel threatened.  They’re very docile.  Honey bees (which are what you have in the video) also are totally necessary to people continuing to live on the earth.  If we really do continue with spraying them with pesticides and killing them, colonies will continue to collapse and we will all die.  Maybe not in our life time, but sometime.  I love my bees.  I cried when my neighbor ignorantly came over and proclaimed that he was allergic and he wanted us to kill our hive.  There are honey bees and there are hundreds of different species of bees that are good and only a few that are bad and give them all a bad name (yellow jackets, wasps, etc.).  We talked with our neighbor and then that night went out and picked up all of the pieces of our hive and moved it about thirty feet away from his property line.  We were not stung as we picked up their home and moved it.  I’ll probably write a blog post about this, once I know that the bees are happy where they are.  They are just so cool and it’s amazing to experience the sound, scent and activity of a living organism!

  7. Oh, I should just note that I do approve of removal of nests that are stinging you or your doggies.  Or are burrowing into your home (like the yellow jacket nest we have on our porch).  Not all stinging insects are good!

  8. @aliashope – I must clarify!  The bees in the video I captured (on digital) while at the Zoo on Saturday.  Coincidentally, I got home and my Son pointed out that we have a small swarm going on our back porch.  They are gone now.  My poor doggie but have been stung at least a half dozen times in the last week.  She just kept coming in the house with bees attached to her.  It was horrible!  If you were my neighbor I would respect your hive and start hinting that honey makes a great neighborly gift!

  9. @tracy – I’m all riled up about my neighbor, so I just wanted to get up on my soapbox.  I definitely think you should keep your doggy from being stung!  Or if you are allergic, so can get rid of nests (on your property!).  It was just stupid for my neighbor to think that our bees are in his backyard building nests when they don’t do that if they have a hive.  We won’t get any honey this year since they’ll need all they have to make it through the winter.  Hopefully, next year we’ll have some though!  Also, bees travel up to three miles to find the proper kind of food!  It’s really quite amazing!

  10. My neighbor used to have hives at the back of his property.  We used to let the clover in our yard grow for the bees. Can’t let the bees sting the doggy.  Poor thing.
