Fun Weekend

So we went to Columbus, Ohio for the weekend.  Columbus is the capitol of Ohio, and has a zoo that was voted #1 in the nation last year.  We do love zoos so it seemed a natural fit.

I just wanted to show you the picutre that was in our hotel room.  Yes, they gave us the room with dogs. ๐Ÿ™‚  This is a Country Suites hotel and it was nice.  The special they were running was buy two nights, get a third free so it was a great deal.  And they give you cookies.

A family of Cats lived on the hotel grounds. There were about a dozen.  Unfortunately I didn’t notice that my camera got knocked the went to dim lighting setting so most of the pictures didn’t come out.

I have a video of a Tiger if it ever finishes loading.

Here is Coreys set of pictures.  I haven’t uploaded mine yet.

  1. OMG cookies???/  I’m going there ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I have that socks. Did I see a nene goose in the video? I didn’t know Gorillas had such a long life span. Cute frog.

  3. @wematter – I don’t know about a nene goose, but there were geese everywhere in Columbus!  They were almost a road hazard.@Ninasusan – It’s the same chain of hotel we stayed at in Chicago.  Just more cookies!@chaosconfetti – It was a beautiful Okapi!  The color was just gorgeous.

  4. @tracy – Ic, it looked like one– it’s our state bird, it was thought of as extinct at one time, now just endangered. Cool pics.

  5. The okapi is an interesting animal, being the closest still-living relative to the giraffe.  When listing the myriad of points that prove evolution, cite the okapi as having also benefited from lengthened neck and legs, though not quite to the degree of its giraffe cousin, both species having descended from a common ancestor.I even wrote a mini-essay on this!

  6. Loved the stingray photo, wow. Are the flamingos doing the flamenco or do they tango? Perhaps they’re waiting for a bus.

  7. @joshgulch – You’re so clever.

  8. @rawtunaandgreens – you have not been around much lately, so I’m very happy to see you!  The stingray was fascinating!  For awhile he was quite taken with my fingernail sitting on the glass.  There are manatees in this tank and they were also very fascinating.

  9. Oh, so glad you liked out zoo. These geese ARE DEFINTELY a hazard! They wake me up every morning flying over at 6AM. Next time you head down here give me a shout out and maybe we can meet for a cuppa joe or something!

  10. Wow!  Looks like you had a GREAT time.  I absolutely loved the stingray photo.  AMAZING!!!

  11. I love the black and white floor. Quite amazing.

  12. so awesome!  I think I’m gonna make that a summer trip this year!    A would love it and it’s inbetween relatives….nice!

  13. Looks like a comfortable place to stay and those bees made me run and get my epi pen.  Lord those gaters are huge.  Love the bear, roo and baby elephants.  Great photos and thanks for sharing.

  14. Great pics.I think the Tulsa Zoo is saying it was voted best in the nation last year.  Interesting.  Maybe it was the year before.  Maybe they all just say the same thing.  LOL
