Nothing much

I heard these two quotes from PJ O’Rourke on NPR the other morning. They made me smile.

Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we’re looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn’t test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.

I also heard that he was born in Toledo, Ohio. I had no idea.

I’m sure you’ll all be happy to know that I am at the point where I seem to be able to eat anything I want! 🙂 I picked up a couple of the expensive Frozen Bento Boxes that I like from Trader Joes to celebrate. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is Mexican Food. I may do that next weekend.

It’s been a rough couple of days because:

1. my fridge died and had to suddenly go buy a new one and have it delivered (happy to be in the position that I could just go take care of it) Annoyance of finding places for food, and shopping for fridge and coping with delivery. It’s done now though

2. I have had a relapse of my Thoracic Outlet Syndrome symptoms. No one to blame but myself. I should have recognized the onset weeks ago and had a nice simple massage to fix it.  Lots of stretching and pain pills and a massage scheduled for tomorrow that will surely help and cause so much soreness.

3. Had my first HDR Cylinder treatment yesterday. It was truly to gruesomely uncomfortable and creepy to describe, so I won’t! I did however get to meet a doctor in the practice that I had not previously met and I really really liked him, and I had the really fun nurses. When dealing with something that uncomfortable it was really a blessing..(Found out I am almost maxed out on Radiation so they dropped one of the treatments, which means Friday is my 2nd and LAST.)

4. I can’t stop shaking. I am so cold all the time. (My husband covers me up with blankets when I’m shaking. It’s nice to have someone tuck you in.) I am going to go post in my little group “Ask the Doctor” on facebook where my friend the Doctor will answer random questions and everyone chimes in with opinions. Such a fun little resource.

I leave you with this random photo from my phone. I was arranging pictures in a frame and snapped this picture to remember the order. The top left is my kids and I. The top right is My sister and I. The bottom left is me, then my sister. And the bottom right is my sister and her late husband Kevin, and my niece Allie.

  1. I had o code that treatment when I was in medical coding wow that would be totally uncomfortable

  2. @SisterMae – It wasn’t the actual treatment that was the worst. It was the hour long “fitting” and CT. 😦

  3. Aww.. I like the pictures! I’m sorry to hear about all the uncomfortable stuff.. hopefully the yummy foods can distract from that a bit?

  4. Didn’t you just buy that fridge? Most new fridges have, like, a 3-5 year warranty and I don’t think it was more than 3 years ago…

  5. @chaosconfetti – Yup. It had a one year warranty, and someone in this house choose the cheapest fridge that could be found. I hated that fridge! It was so loud and had rust on it after the first week! I am so happy it’s gone. I probably should have broken it myself at the beginning of summer.

  6. *hug* I hope you warm up soon! And that your massage is more pleasure than pain. Yeah, don’t get on no schtinking elliptical!

  7. I’m so glad you’re able to eat!

  8. Love the idea of those tests.  Made me smile too. My niece gave me a therapy bag that she bought at Target that not only warms me, but is herbally scented.  You heat it up in the microwave and it lasts quite awhile.

  9. The heat therapy bags Emme mentioned really work.  My son is an oncologist/radiologist and he’s always telling people about them.  They aren’t all that expensive and are well worth the cost.  I live in Toledo also….so where is the Trader Joe’s?

  10. @TheEmeraldPixie – We head up to Ann  Arbor and hit Whole Foods and Trader Joes, and usually Noodles for lunch. 🙂 It’s about 40 minutes.

  11. @Emme402 – @TheEmeraldPixie – It’s got to smell better than my heating pad! T.E.P. – where does your son work? I love every one of the Oncology Radiologists I’ve seen. They’ve made such a huge difference the last couple of months. Give him a hug for me and tell him us patients appreciate him.

  12. I was going to ask the same thing about the refrigerator.  Well, did you get something different?  The seal around my freezer door doesn’t seal anymore.  I can’t keep anything in there.  It sort of snows in there.  Craig wanted to replace the seal but there is not one identifying number on that thing anywhere.  Since the fridge is still working we are making due until we can find a good sale plus it had to get bad enough for Craig really to believe that we needed a new one.How was the message or is that later today?I love the pictures!!!I also love the quotes.  How true!  Drugs and alcohol are what people use to medicate themselves while they deal with the other things.Hey, thanks for being you!  You brighten my day!

  13. @skanickadee – I did get something different! A nice white fridge on top/freezer on the bottom Whirlpool. It’s so very quiet, and bigger! The bottom freezer isn’t the normal drawer that you see on most now, it’s actually a door that opens so I like it. My massage finished about two hours ago and I have another one scheduled for next friday. Feels so much better! I will be happy if it doesn’t spasm when I lay down tonight, though the percoset did a fine job for me last night. 🙂 And THANK YOU! We make a good team.

  14. I just replaced my fridge… what a pain.
