Archive for November, 2012

I wanted to title this using Vegetable names as puns but I just couldn’t do it.

Today I just want to buy something. Isn’t that odd? I fulfilled this need by ordering my first Christmas present for someone. (my sister)

I went to the dentist this morning. I have a cap (well, I have lots of caps) that has been feeling funny. Not really hurting because there was a root canal on the tooth under the cap but sensitive and oddly warm occasionally. So I went and they didn’t find anything too wrong. My gum was a little inflamed and he said the bite was a little off so I might be putting pressure on one edge of the cap. It’s a porcelain cap so he ground a little off the top to make the bite better. Now the other side of my mouth hurts! I sure hope it’s temporary.

Today I have an acupuncturist appointment as well. I will spend at least half of the appointment thanking her. She pushed me gently into trying some Chinese herbs. It took exactly four days for me to realize that they are miraculous. They did not make things a little better, they made things unbelievably better. I have not had to take a prescription or OTC pill for my sad intestines for THREE WEEKS! This weekend I will try raw veggies. I have been very careful about what I’ve eaten in the last three weeks to make sure I’m allowing optimum healing. But even eating things I shouldn’t or that were borderline I reacted the same as I would have reacted two years ago – before radiation.

I know I’ve talked about it but I will repeat this little triad many times because it is made to help people with all sorts of intestinal issues. If it worked on me, and I 100% guarantee you that mine were in worse shape than 99% of the people who may stumble across this, then it is worth it to give it a try.

Aloe Vera Juice – the pure stuff. 2 to 3 ounces every day or or two. Multi-spectrum digestive enzymes taken with any food that potentially may cause you problems. And then you must find someone who carries the GI Care Formula of Evergreen Herbs ( A-FREAKING-MAZING!

I do think I will have to permanently eschew most dairy and wheat. I just ate a snack of some of those lance Cheese /Peanut Butter crackers and it’s making me feel a little, uhg.  I think that part of my digestive system is just damaged beyond repair. I’m okay with this. My goal for 2013 is to be on an at least 50% raw diet.

I am very close to be another size smaller while only losing 2 pounds. Not really sure what’s going on there but I’m trying not to even think about it. I feel good, I have some excellent muscles and eventually I will drop the last 15 pounds. Until then I’ll just keep trying to do what I do. Bike this morning, yoga tonight. Tomorrow Bike, then Zumba.

I had three excellent nights of uninterrupted (mostly) sleep then last night I woke up 11 times according to my FitBit. It feels like I woke up 11 times! My eyes feel all puffy and achy.

HA – after all that above, I just realized that I forgot to take my herbs. I would rather travel without my blood pressure medicine than my herbs. Does that tell you something? If I went somewhere and forgot them I would have them shipped overnight to me!

Off I go.

Fun App

I heard about a new APP on NPR this morning and downloaded it. It’s called Postcard on the Run. It is so fun! You can take a picture, add an address and a message and then they create an actual physical postcard and mail it. You can also add a map showing where you are and for $0.50 extra you can add Scratch & Sniff! So, go to the beach, take a picture and add the scent of suntan lotion and pop it off to the kiddie via postal mail. The one I made came out to $1.99. I didn’t actually send it, just wanted to know the price.

And now for the update on my day we will move over to the protected portion of our posting. Believe me, it’s for your own good if you can’t see it. It will be graphic information about my lady parts.

Things to try:

Lean Cuisine – Fettuccine Alphredo

I know it’s not exciting food, but it’s a whole lot more than I could eat a few months ago! You can find lots of ways to mix things and make them different.  And really, I can eat anything I want as long as it’s in terribly small portions. Usually I just steal a bite or two of my husbands food to help my cravings for things I shouldn’t eat.

I’m sure there’s more, I just can’t think of them right now.

Sunday night ramblings.

Did I tell you about my feet? My feet are a half size bigger than they use to be.  Rude! though this explains why all of my shoes hurt my feet. Did you know that New Balance makes womans casual shoes now? Some of them very ugly, some of them very cute.

We are going on vacation the 2nd week in December. We are driving down to Cocoa Beach by way of Knoxville and then Savannah.

We are then going on vacation in February, probably to the San Francisco area. I have never been to California and I have a small phobia about it that goes back to a weird childhood thing.

My husband is currently scheduled (again) to be in China for the month of January. I think I will try to schedule a short vacation with my sister. Maybe just a long weekend somewhere that we can drive.

I have a very tough life. 🙂

My quarterly oncologist appointment was supposed to be last week but got moved to next week. It always makes me antsy.

This is going to make some people uncomfortable, so turn your head now if you’re squeamish about talking about death. I’ll let you know when to turn back.

According to the Center for something I have a 32% chance of still being alive in five years. It’s not negative thinking, it’s statistics. I also know that I have had things happen in my life that were much worse odds. While it’s not something I think about all the time it is something that’s always there. I think it makes me a better person and makes me affect positive changes. The only negative consequence is that Doctors appointments make me very antsy. I’m always prepared to have that moment when they suddenly look uncomfortable and get that apologetic look on their face. I have to be because I don’t want to ever be that caught off guard. So, anyway I get a little cranky and occasionally a little manic and I start talking about it quite a bit again. So, expect to hear this conversation or some form of it, again in 12 weeks.

You can come back now.

I bought some breathe-right strips (thanks for the reminder mary beth) and some herbal sleeping stuff. This is a kind I have never tried before. We’ll see. 😉

I didn’t get dressed today! I spent all day in my yoga pants mostly reading and watching television. I haven’t done that in a long time.

Soup on the fly (Not fly soup)

Wanted to make some soup but had pretty limited ingredients in the house. This is what I came up with:

Sauteed chopped yellow onion in about 1/3 cup of Olive Oil
Dropped in 5 chopped varied sized red potatoes
Water enough to cover potatoes easily with some extra
Two of my favorite vegetable bouillon cubes
1/2 teaspoon of Sea Salt
1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric (I’ve been on a turmeric kick lately)
bubble bubble bubble until it all turns to mush
Immersion blender (the immersion blender works as a filter and took out most of the potato skins that didn’t break down)
Black Pepper (I was out of white)
Arrowroot powder (maybe a 1/8 teaspoon because I’m not used to it)

Pretty good!
Next time – maybe half a can of cannellini beans and maybe a shredded carrot or sweet potato chunk

I really need to find a way to sleep through the night. At least I know why I’m tired all of the time!

Just some quick photos

At least when it gets cold & humid I get pretty windows on my car.

Office Construction:

That’s Mike the building guy taking over my desk space. He drew magic lines on the wall then..

A little piece popped out…

A closer look….then…

BAM! No more wall!

I am not getting all of that space. See the column on the right? Picture a wall there. I get one room on the left and then the space from the column back to my office.  Just enough to spread out and de-clutter a little!
